Marketing Has Many Facets
You may not realize it, but direct marketing – or DM – is the original interactive marketing.
And just like a diamond that you hold up to the light, it can look very different … depending on the delivery channel. But anytime your goal is to engage an audience and generate a measurable response, it's direct marketing.
Likewise, whether that response is by online click, e-mail, phone, cell phone, or regular mail … and whether you call it social marketing, mobile marketing, e-marketing, integrated marketing or some other type of marketing … it's direct marketing.
The bottom line: if you're trying to start a dialogue, generate a lead, build a relationship, acquire a customer, retain that customer, encourage current members to "get a friend," extend lifetime value, test offers and creative, analyze results and sell something … that's direct marketing.
