It’s that time of year again! The PDMA Right Start Internship Program was a success last year in that we placed area college students in member organizations last summer to get a taste of a real work environment.  So as a reminder to those members who participated and for those who did not…..

What is the PDMA Right Start program?

Right Start is a program that assists in matching marketing students with sponsor companies, to secure internships during the summer months. The benefits to students are obvious in that they get real-world experience, develop a network of professional contacts, and get hands-on understanding of their chosen field. Members benefit when schools recommend high achievers who demonstrate interest in direct marketing and related fields and get value-add on projects and marketing initiatives.

What’s New this Year?  “Mentor for a Day”

The Right Start program now includes Mentor for a Day! This new feature allows students to spend a day at various sponsoring members’ facilities.  Examples of mentoring activities may include:

-- Tours of facilities
-- Observation of client meetings and interactions
-- Operational activities
-- Networking opportunities with management or executive team
-- Job shadowing

Mentor for a Day provides valuable real-world insights to students pursuing marketing and communications careers, as well as area firms who want to identify new talent. How it works?

Each participating school will select two students to participate in the program each year – ideally your high achievers.  Be sure to give special consideration to students who have indicated an interest in marketing and communications.  PDMA member companies interested in mentoring will express their interest in an application on the PDMA’s web site, and will submit a proposed agenda for the student’s visit.
